born on 25 December 1916 in Redcliffe, Alberta. His father was a butcher and they lived in Glencoe. He attended Glencoe Public School 1923-1930 (Standard Entrance) and Glencoe High 1930-1936 (Standard Matric). Donald also took evening classes in typewriting and bookkeeping. Donald worked for his father in the butchery business, 1936-1940 and he was also a volunteer fireman. The sports Donald took an interest in were hockey, football, running and field sports. His hobby was repairing auto engines. |
He enlisted on 27 June 1940 and after training was sent to the U.K. where he arrived at 3 PRC ON 20 April 1941. He then went to 17 OTU on 7 June 1941, 16 OTU 16 August 1941 and on to 83 Squadron on 12 December 1941. |
